THE STRUCTURE OF TRANSPARENCY

Join James Carpenter on zoom at 6:30 pm EDT / 5:30 pm CDT as he presents a public lecture for the Physics & Contemporary Architecture series at the University of Chicago’s Physics Department. This lecture will focus upon his 40-year trajectory of work that brings agency to the material glass, allowing it to reveal the properties and presence of light within our built environment. The talk will show built examples of pivotal projects which initiated the use of glass as a structural material in architecture and how these projects explore particular properties of light to heighten the individual’s awareness of place. If time allows, he will also suggest a project the students and the public to explore at home.
