PERSON PLACE THING EVENT TO FEATURE JAMES CARPENTER

James Carpenter will be the featured guest at this edition of Person Place Thing. Founded by Randy Cohen, original Ethicist columnist at the NYTimes Magazine, PPT is an interview show based on the idea that people are particularly engaging when they speak, not directly about themselves, but something they care about. Guests discuss one person, one place, and one thing with particular meaning to them.

Other architect-guests have included James Polshek, Billie Tsien/Tod Williams, Elizabeth Diller, David Adjaye. Among other art-world luminaries we’ve hosted: graphic designers (Paula Scher, Chip Kidd), artists (William Wegman, Alice Aycock), critics (Michael Kimmelman, Roberta Smith), actors (Bill Irwin, Julianne Moore), playwrights (Michael R. Jackson, Paula Vogel), choreographers (Annie-B Parson, Bill T. Jones), directors (Julie Taymor, Kenny Leon), musicians (David Byrne, Terence Blanchard), writers (Gary Shteyngart, Jennifer Egan).

Person Place Thing has presented the show in such venues as the Center for Architecture, Society of Illustrators, Park Avenue Armory, the Central Park Arsenal, American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the Spring Street Salt Shed.  This event is generously supported by Silverstein Properties. The firm is hosting the event on the 10th Floor of 7World Trade Center, a particularly fitting space as the tower is exemplary of James Carpenter’s collaboration with architects, in this case, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

The show will take place in front of an audience, with live music, after which it will be edited as a podcast and broadcast across WAMC Northeast Public Radio, a 23-station regional network, and a dozen other public radio stations around the country.
